VeggieTales
Big Idea, August 2007.
DVD

My family loves their Veggies, and I don’t mean your ordinary Garden Variety. My kids have been enthralled with VeggieTales since my ten-year-old was ten months. Little ones love the colors, the music and the big shiny eyes. Adults love the nostalgic humor, and all ages love the stories and positive messages that the folks at Big Idea have to share.

This most recent DVD VeggieTales - God Made You Special is a collection of old Veggie favorites and new. Christian or not, we can all benefit from the message that everyone is special and valuable, which is the common thread running through all four stories.

One of the things I enjoyed most about this DVD was the interviews with little Veggie fans in between stories. A child hearing positive messages from their peers is a very powerful learning tool, and how fun it must be for those children to hear their own voices coming through a Veggie character!

While I have to admit that I think the animation is more detailed in the older stories, the newer ones, such as the “Snoodles Tale” and “Bob’s Vacation”, still hold the same story-telling charm that Big Idea is known for. The Bonus Feature Games are too easy for the older kids, but still enjoyable for the littler ones. The songs are always fun, even the “serious” ones. The tunes are catchy, the words are memorable, and kids and adults both can sing them in times of happiness or times of trouble. (Be careful though, “The Belly Button Song” can stick with you for days!)

Heather Kaminski is currently a stay home mom of two. In her “past life” she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
